The killing of George Floyd, together with so many appalling events that continue to occur, are tragic and deeply disturbing. While our potential impact on ending police brutality against black and brown people might be small, we can each contribute to stopping the perpetuation of systemic discrimination of black and brown people by acknowledging it exists, doing better at recognizing our bias, and treating each other with respect and equality.

As a company, we are committed to fighting discrimination and anti-Black racism in all we do. Slice advocates and promotes an all digital AI-based approach to insurance. The positive transformational aspects of automation and an online approach can include a greater degree of fairness, transparency and removing bias to ensure that people are fairly protected and compensated for their losses regardless of their differences. While we focus on those transformational aspects, we also recognize that the new protections, new experiences and the efficiencies we deliver online through AI and automation have the potential to do harm. We take our responsibility to do no harm seriously and take measures to mitigate against unintended side effects.

“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
